Nevada tourism director wins international marketing award

CARSON CITY, Nev. – In a recent announcement to members of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA), Claudia Vecchio, director at Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (dba Travel Nevada), was named the 2015 winner of the J. Desmond Slattery Professional Marketing Award. TTRA is the leading association globally for travel and tourism research.

According to TTRA, the award is presented annually to a professional who has made a significant contribution to the travel and tourism marketing industry. Some of Vecchio’s notable contributions include launching Travel Nevada’s Don’t Fence Me In brand; working with research partner TNS to create an innovative and fully integrated campaign effectiveness model; and helping return the state’s museums to full-time public service.

Since joining Travel Nevada, Vecchio’s leadership has increased the return on investment for Nevada tourism efforts from 19:1 to 33:1, meaning that for every dollar invested in paid tourism advertising, approximately $33 was returned in visitor spending.

“Being selected for this award is a tremendous honor,” Vecchio said. “Solid research is the core of any successful marketing program, so the recognition by the Travel and Tourism Research Association is a testament to the insightful work being done by Travel Nevada and our innovative partners.”

The announcement comes just after another successful campaign launch led by Vecchio, as Travel Nevada revealed its new integrated marketing campaign on September 30.

“Claudia’s leadership has brought steady growth to Nevada’s tourism industry,” said Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison, chairman of the Nevada Commission on Tourism. “She is very deserving of this recognition.”

She will be recognized at a luncheon during TTRA’s Marketing Outlook Forum in Philadelphia on October 27, 2015. At the conference, she will also participate in a panel discussion about International Tourism in the face of the strong US Dollar.
